As fall progresses, it’s safe to say that we are all STILL in a spooky vibe. But no matter who I ask, no one seems to be taking advantage of the vast amount of creepy and intriguing content on the Youtube platform. Here are my top five favorite scary/spooky vibe channels, (not in any particular order) that, by the way, are still exceptional to watch year round!
Barely Sociable
Barely Sociable is a fairly new channel with a total of twelve uploads and 156k subscribers. The channel mainly focuses on “internet oddities” and Reddit mysteries which have little to no coverage by larger spooky channels. This channel is special specifically because they focus on lowkey mysteries (Ex The Mysterious Phone Number From The 90s) which is unlike most large creators because they tend to regurgitate already well-known ones (i.e. Cicada 3301 and the Elisa Lam case). Barely Sociable’s content is short, about ten to thirty minutes long. They not only have amazing content, but also phenomenal editing skills that enhance the whole experience of these types of videos.
Criminally Listed
Criminally Listed is a true crime channel (true crime being real crimes commited by real people) that dissects murders, cold cases, and much more. They have a total of 193 videos and about 607k subscribers. This channel stands out to me, not only because they do updates on cases that have been recently solved, but because they do more than one case per video, sometimes doing up to 4 cases in one video. They typically last anywhere from thirty minutes to just over an hour. Criminally Listed was one of the first channels that I discovered in this genre and I’ve always enjoyed every video that has been posted by them.
Lets Read!
Lets Read! Is a narrated channel that creates videos surrounding scary stories that have happened in real life. They range from ghost stories to encounters with people with malicious intent. All stories depicted in these hour long “episodes” are *allegedly* true, and gathered from subscribers or redditors. Lets Read! has a total of 537 videos and about 576k subscribers. The videos have still images with voice overs reading stories. Each video has about six or more stories edited into one video and span from thirty minutes to two hours long. This channel also posts the episodes in podcast form on sites such as Spotify and Apple Podcast so you can listen without having your phone unlocked for long periods of time. The narrator’s voice is always really nice to hear when you want an incredibly spooky vibe.
Nexpo
Nexpo, a channel with 84 videos and about 930k subscribers has chill and smooth editing. Nexpo focuses on specific Redditors and their disappearances from the internet itself, as well as dissecting other Youtube videos and creators that are unique and intriguing in a creepy or unsettling way. Nexpo’s videos are on the shorter side which, is perfect for people who want to get into this side of Youtube, and have yet to get into a routine of listening to hour long videos with various mini stories in them.
Top 5 Unknowns
Last but not least, Top 5 Unknowns! The last four channels I’ve mentioned are primarily still-image videos that you’d only have to listen to in order to have the “creep factor”. Top 5 Unknowns is different because their videos focus on other clips and dissect the footage, as well as posts from victims or perpetrators within the situations. This channel is by far the largest of those listed with about 1.92M subscribers and a total of 846 videos. The duration of these videos are typically between nine and twenty minutes, so your time isn’t totally consumed by one video. I tend to play videos when I do homework, so this is yet another good channel that I go to fill the silence while working on papers.
These are definitely my go to when I'm in a spooky mood! People with morbid curiosity are sure to enjoy the videos from these channels, and it’s always good to get out of your comfort zone once in a while. Interestingly enough, all of these channels have anonymous owners, which adds to the mysteriousness of it all. But they’re definitely not the only channels to go to for spectacular content, some honorable mentions include(but are not limited to) Be. Busta, Lazy Masquerade, and Corpse Husband.
