On December 31, 2015, One Direction went on a hiatus leaving fans devastated. Since then, the members of One Direction have started up their solo careers and achieved a lot on their own. If you haven’t been caught up with them, here’s where the boys of One Direction are now.
Harry Styles
Following the hiatus, Harry has been arguably the most successful out of the band. In 2017, Styles made his debut on the big screen in the war drama movie Dunkirk. In that same year, he released his first solo song “Sign of the Times” and then his first solo album which made number one on the Billboard 200 album charts. At the end of 2017, he performed at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
This year, he is set to present an award to Stevie Nicks during the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Styles is also set to co-chair the upcoming Met Gala alongside stars like Lady Gaga and Serena Williams.
Louis Tomlinson
Even before the band announced their hiatus, Louis had already started his solo endeavors by starting a record label in April 2015. In 2016, he released the single, “Just Hold On”, which was a collaboration with producer and DJ Steve Aoki. In that same year, Briana Jungwirth welcomed their son Freddie.
In 2017, Louis released more songs. One was “Back to You” with Bebe Rexha and “Miss You. Louis was a judge and mentor on the US version of "The X Factor". Earlier this year, he released another song “The Two of Us” which is dedicated to his mother who died in 2016. Sadly, Louis lost another family member this year. His sister, Felicite Tomlinson, died of a heart attack and was only 18.
Liam Payne
In March 2017, Liam became the second member of One Direction to become a father when he and Cheryl Cole welcomed a baby boy named Bear. That same year, he released his hit single "Strip That Down," featuring the rapper Quavo. In 2018, Liam and Cheryl split and just a month later, he released his debut EP, "First Time," which includes four tracks and a feature from French Montana.
In October of 2018, he released a joint track with Lennon Stella and Jonas Blue titled "Polaroid." That same year, Liam also recorded a duet with singer Rita Ora for the movie soundtrack of "Fifty Shades Freed" and he released the track "Familiar" with artist J. Balvin.
Niall Horan
Niall released his first solo album "Flicker" in 2017 and he concluded his first solo international tour in September of 2018. That same year, he released "Finally Free" for the movie soundtrack of the animated film "Smallfoot." Since then, he's also released a track with singer-songwriter Julia Michaels titled "What A Time." He has yet to release a second album but did confirm that he's sacrificing a 2019 tour to focus on recording new tracks. Aside from Harry Styles, he us the second most successful member of One Direction after the split.
Hopefully by 2020 One Direction will reunite much like The Jonas Brothers and have one last album and reunion tour.
