It was a nice, small and cozy building. The entrance of the cafe showcased colorful cat buttons, art, and random knick knacks. As soon as we walked in, an employee greeted us and told us a clear game plan right away. There were five more minutes until we were allowed entrance to the cat lounge, a separate room in the cafe.
As a cat lover, when I heard about KitTea Cat Cafe, it became a place I longed to go, but never really had the time because it is located all the way in San Francisco. During the holiday break of my senior year, I finally made a visit with friends. We almost couldn’t make it to our reservation because we missed our train, so we had no choice but to take a $70 Uber ride to make it in time. But all the stress from trying to make it in time faded away when we walked into the cafe and the fluffy adorable felines were in our sight.
The cat lounge was filled with natural light coming in through a large window facing the streets of San Francisco. Some cats were already taking their afternoon naps. It was a warm and peaceful atmosphere. Although the space was small, it wasn’t crowded since KitTea limits the number of people that can be in the lounge at a time so there was plenty of room to roam around and play with the cats.

It was nice getting to pet them after a long morning of getting ready and commuting to San Francisco. Some even let me touch their paws! At one point, the employee watching over the cat lounge allowed us to feed the cats. Most cats are trained and can be commanded to sit for a treat. There are eleven permanent cat residents and one or two featured adoptable cats living at KitTea. All cats are pretty friendly and some are comfortable enough to let you carry them. My friends and I especially adored Blinx, a blind female black cat with white socks for feet and a white belly. Although she couldn’t see us, we fed her some treats and she cozied up to us. She’s a bit feisty, but still a very lovable cat.KitTea accepts walk-ins, but it is likely that most slots are already all booked on busy days so if you want to book a reservation, visit www.kitteasf.com. Each cat lounge visit is a one hour slot, costing $20 per person or $15 per person during happy hours on Thursdays.
This is the second article I wrote about cat cafes. To read about The Dancing Cat, San Jose’s very own cat lounge, refer to http://schsraiderreview.weebly.com/a-heaven-for-cat-lovers-cat-cafes-and-lounges.htm
