On Saturday, October 21, 2017, Silver Creek High School hosted the annual homecoming dance. The dance took place in Raider Hall, and this year the theme was “Secret Garden”. Over 400 tickets were on sale starting Thursday, October 5th during lunch and were sold out quickly.
Nikki Vadi ‘18, an events commissioner, said that Camile Huynh ‘20, the head of the events commission, texted the events commissioners when leadership quickly sold out of tickets.
“We were all surprised because we weren’t expecting to sell out that fast. Lots of people go to homecoming so I was glad that we sold out”, said Vadi.
This year’s homecoming featured D.J. Komodo, who has been a DJ at many of Silver Creek’s past dances. Dance guests were also able to capture their fun memories by taking photobooth pictures and making photo flipbooks.
Vadi and her commision were looking at different themes and inspiration when co-commissioner Christine Tran ‘20, found secret garden inspired decorations.
“We loved the color scheme of green and lavender. The event commissioners were set on Secret Garden and so was leadership when we put it to a vote,” said Vadi.
To complement the Secret Garden theme, the events commission adorned the entry way with a beautiful flower arch. They also decorated the large wall outside of Raider Hall with a large banner filled flowers and the tables with beautiful lighted jars.
“I thought it amazing, events worked really hard to put it on and it was nice to see how much the students wanted to go,” said Vadi.
School clubs, such as Japanese National Honors Society, sold pizza, popcorn and nachos.
All the effort that leadership put into making this dance definitely paid off, as everyone appeared to have a great time. The dance floor remained packed all night long, thanks to D.J. Komodo’s electrifying playlist.
