Recently, the popular “Boo’d Up” singer, Ella Mai, supposedly sent a cease and desist letter to an upcoming singer, Jacquees, after he released his remix of her song “Trip”. Some that have spoken, saying that she put it down because it outperformed the original. Many listeners admire his voice and style in his song; however, that didn’t stop Jacquees’s “Quemix” from being removed from YouTube and Soundcloud.
For those who are not familiar with his version, it is a spin on “Trip”. It was released September 1st, and was trending all over Twitter. Warning, his lyrics are more explicit than Ella Mai’s. Some lyrics are: “Got a whole lot of love, ain’t tryna waste it/ You got me runnin’ around and I never chase it/ Your face so pretty to me, makeup ain’t make it/ Your face so pretty to me, makeup can’t make it”. Yet by September 5th, the song was taken down.
T-Pain, a well-known performer, claimed that Jacquees was making money off his remix. Jacquees retorted on his Twitter page saying, “No I didn’t lol hell you talm [sic] bout my brother. I put it on Soundcloud and YouTube you know my game ain’t cap I love Ella.” Furthermore, some thought Jacquees hinted that he was sent and cease-and-desist letter to remove the Quemix.
On the other hand, many people has put the blame on Ella Mai, saying it is her fault for taking down the Quemix. They assumed that she didn’t like the fact that his song was getting more popular than hers. However, that was not the case. DJ Mustard has spoke on the whole situation. He tweeted, “Our artists don’t send cease and desists, we do.” Mustard also confirmed that Ella Mai was not involved with getting Jacquees’s cover removed. However, Ella Mai hasn’t spoken out about this music drama.
Jacquees has also spoken out, saying he wasn’t too upset about the aftermath of the Quemix. Instead he wished in the future that he will be able to sing with Ella Mai. At the end have the day, the heat definitely cool down in that side have the music industry. No harsh feelings were spreaded.
