Due to the Coronavirus, we have been asked to remain in shelter and place to help stop the spread of the virus. It can get really boring, so here are some trends that can help you and your family keep busy during the quarantine and even have some fun.
My ideas came from TikTok, an app where people can create short videos that include dancing, comedy, lip-syncing, DIY’s, and overall you can use your own creativity. Each day there are new trends on TikTok for you to try but I’ve chosen a few to try at home with your family.
Recreating Old Photos
The first trend includes recreating old family photos. The video begins with the people quickly positioning themselves to where they were in the original photo. After they are in the right place the video transitions to the old photo showing the difference in years. The song that plays in the background is “I’m just a kid” by Simple Plan and the lyrics playing are “When you're spending every day on your own, And here it goes, I'm just a kid, And life is a nightmare”. If you don’t have the app it would still be nice to recreate some of your old family photos.
Themed Dinner
This next trend, also inspired by TikTok, is taking over your family dinner and cooking a meal for them. You can be as creative as you want and even follow a theme. The idea came from the TikTok account caitcanoe. The person behind the camera records her sibling as he cooks dinner for his family. The first video of many that I saw from this account was the Hibachi themed dinner. He began by serving homemade ramen to each member of his family. Then he brought out a griddle and began making fried rice in front of them like at a Hibachi grill. Some of his themed dinner ideas were Disney Princesses, Chopped (the show), and Mexican. I hope you can try one of these dinner ideas.
Family Dress Up
Another quarantine trend from TikTok is dressing up as one of your family members and surprising them for dinner or when they get home. Some ideas I saw were a family dressed up as one of the daughters and they used some of her Instagram pictures for outfit ideas. Another family decided to dress up as what their dad looks like when he arrives from work. They surprised him when he got home by wearing one of his work shirts, work boots and even drew a beard on themselves. This is a fun trend to surprise one of your family members and bring some joy during this rough time.
Toilet Paper Transition
This next trend involves more work on the app but the outcome is pretty cool and I got the idea from the TikTok account cris.correa7. The challenge is creating a video where someone in your family begins by kicking a roll of toilet paper. The video transitions to another family member controlling the roll of toilet paper making it seem like it never touched the ground, traveling to their location. Each time the video shows a new person you have to make sure the toilet paper came from the same area it left giving it the effect that it never touched the ground. The end result showcases a family kicking a roll of toilet paper making it seem as if it’s traveling through the screen.
Have fun with these trends and be as creative as you can. Try exploring the app for new trends and make some videos of your own. Stay safe!
