We’re tired of the cultural disgust around all things related to menstruation otherwise known as periods, yes I said it: periods. We’re tired of being cautious about how we talk about it, to not embarrass ourselves, offend, or cause discomfort. We’re over it being seen as a ‘problem’, and most of all we’re sick of the silly jokes that seek to diminish us. Most females experience her period every month or (for the irregular ladies out there) every other month. Talking about periods shouldn’t be considered a gross or unnecessary topic; on the contrary, it's how the female body is designed and we should be able to talk about it freely without feeling shy or judged.

Myths and Misconceptions:

- First of all, no. Tampons don’t take away your virginity, that’s just something that people believed for a long time. Even though tampons can occasionally cause a hymen to stretch or tear, it does not mean you aren’t still a virgin. A tampon will not take your virginity, so that should be the least of your worries.
- Another misconception out there is that it is unsafe to use birth control pills to enable or skip your period. Although, getting your period means your body is staying healthy some girls have severe period symptoms, so doctors do recommend this for ladies that struggle with their period.
- Now here goes another myth (and this one is going to be a little out there, but just bear with us) Periods do not attract animals. They do not attract bears when camping and they most definitely do not attract sharks either when swimming. They get attracted to amino acid blood from their prey not your period.

Home Remedies (and Medicine):
Easing Cramps and sore Muscles
- Heat is the best, non-medicinal, way to relieve pain during periods. It relaxes the muscles, which increases blood flow and eases the tension which causes cramps.
- Drinking chamomile tea helps reduce menstrual cramps. Chamomile also relaxes the muscles, because it contains a chemical that relaxes nerves.
- Eating cherries, blueberries, squash, tomatoes, and bell peppers are good choices for when you feel bloated. Foods that are high in potassium reduce water retention in the body, which decrease the risk of sodium-induced bloating.
- You may be craving fatty, sugary, or salty foods when you have your period, but these foods are not your friends, try to stay away from them.
- Ginger helps a lot when feeling pain in your lower abdomen.
- Eat more calcium-rich beans, almonds, and dark leafy greens. These foods contain compounds that combat inflammation.
