Spoiler Warning for season one and two. After waiting a whole year, our favorite Four teenagers of Freeridge returned on March 29 for season two. The last episode of season one ended us with a bang, literally. Ruby (Jason Genao) and Olivia (Ronni Hawk) were shot at Olivia’s quinceanera by rival gang member Latrell. The trailer shows, Ruby survived the shooting, as see him walking side by side with Monse (Sierra Capri), Cesar (Diego Tinoco) and Jamal (Brett gray). But what happened to Ronni Hawk’s character, Olivia?
Olivia didn’t survive the shot. Not only did her character die, but her career died with her. When the show first came out, tweets from Ronni Hawk’s Twitter were discovered and concerned fans. The tweets were from 2016 and in them Hawk expressed her admiration for Donald Trump. Along with that she tweeted February 18 on the day of the Parkland shooting, that she was very much against gun control. This resulted in many fans of the show demanding for her to be either fired or killed off because the show explores life for young people of color in a low income neighborhood directly affected by gun violence. She has apologized on Twitter, but it just left fans unimpressed. In her apology she talked about how she was only 16 at the time of the tweets and now as an 18 year old she understands her mistake. She stated she wasn’t fully informed and had been posting blindly. The only thing she didn't mention was Parkland Shooting which angered some fans. Although it isn’t confirmed, it is speculated that Netflix decided to remove Ronni Hawk’s character from the show because of her scandal. This made fans both happy and sad because now Ruby is left heartbroken and mourning her death. Will Ruby be okay and move on or will he remain grieving and never be the same? Season 2 is out now so go and watch it! |
