Now that it’s November, we’re only weeks away from probably the most celebrated and loved holiday - Christmas! It’s that time of year where stores are bringing out the decorations, neighbors are setting up Santa Claus and his reindeer across the yard, parents are buying the many presents they’ll hide around the house, and kids are counting down the days to tear open all of the presents stacked up around the Christmas tree.
But wait just a minute… Aren’t we all forgetting something? Something really important? Another holiday perhaps? Oh yeah, Thanksgiving! The wonderful day that we should be spending with family as we stuff ourselves with some turkey and of course a whole lot of pumpkin pie.
Aside from the food aspect of it all, I really think that Thanksgiving has become a lot more underrated throughout the years when it should be one of the most important ones to be celebrated.
A possible reason that the spirit of Thanksgiving has died down is Black Friday. People are looking forward to all of the sales from their favorite stores and are taking advantage of the biggest shopping day of the year to start buying Christmas presents early. At this point, everyone just ends up being stressed over which stores to go to for better deals on the items that they want to buy instead of relaxing and enjoying the time they should be spending with family.
Family and friends mean a really great deal to me, so Thanksgiving is a lot more meaningful to me. It should be to other people, too, if they take the time to think about it. I mean, we’ve gone through another long year with the people who have supported us and pushed us to keep on going, so shouldn’t we make sure that the day we all celebrate and thank each other is something to look forward to? Yes, Christmas can make one of the most memorable and precious moments, but Thanksgiving can too. We just have to appreciate it a little more.
