Spring is finally here and so is the new Korean Drama produced by TvN, Her Private Life, released on April 10 with a total of 16 episodes.
Kim Jae Wook stars as Ryan Gold and Park Min Young as Sung Deok Mi. The story follows by a curator named, Sung Deok Mi, played by Park Min Young, who runs a fansite for an idol named Shi An, played by One, from White Ocean, a fictional Kpop group. Because of her obsession towards Shi An, Deok Mi faced many personal breakups so she has been only devoted towards her job and her love for Shi An. It wasn’t until she met Ryan Gold, played by Kim Jae Wook, a painter who became the art director of the art gallery where Deok Mi works at. He began to shown interest towards Deok Mi as he found out her obsession towards an idol.
When I heard that Her Private Life was coming out, I was immensely excited about the drama to come. At first I came to watch it because of Kim Jae Wook, a well-known actor from Coffee Prince (2007), Voice (2017), and The Guest (2018) but later on, I found the summary plot to be intriguing because it seemed like it came out from a fanfiction like After, an American movie based on Harry Styles fanfiction on Wattpad. It actually came from a novel written by Kim Sung Yeon.
The first episode was well-paced and had some funny scenes that most fangirls can relate to. I enjoyed Park Min Young’s portrayal of Sung Deok Mi, she expressed the emotions that most fangirls have when they encounter an idol they love and shows a professional side when working as a curator. Kim Jae Wook’s English skills were on point and I was amazed at the way that he portrays his character. It wasn’t too dramatic, unlike most typical arrogant bosses that are portrayed in most dramas.
The first episode caught my attention by how different they filmed the storyline unlike any other dramas. They started to introduce Deok Mi from her childhood to the reasons why she became a fansite. As for Ryan Gold, they made Ryan Gold’s appearance mysterious yet sophisticated to show how he is a well-known artist known for his criticism of other artist’s paintings.
The first season of Her Private Life was absolutely intriguing considering that it was one of the most popular drama this year and it has an equal amount of both funny and romantic scenes to show that love is in the air for spring. I would recommend it to anyone who’s looking to binge or feeling the spring romance.
