On My Block is back. For those of you who don’t know what On My Block is, it is a Netflix original series that was released last year in March. The show followed the journey of four friends as they venture through the early years of their high school career.
The last episode ended abruptly with a cliffhanger and now we finally get to see what’s at the end of that cliff. Just a side note, if you have not seen the first season, you should not read this article because there are spoilers.
The first season ended with Ruby and Olivia getting shot by Spooky’s, Caesar's brother, rival gang. The trailer released on March 12, 2019, hinted Ruby is alive and doing well. It’s a good thing, because we were going to have to throw away the whole show if Ruby were dead.
Not only did the show end at the part when Ruby and Olivia were at the cusp of death, but the show cut off the moment when Jamal found the Rollerworld money. So Jamal comes back in Season 2 balling, but with a little paranoia that someone will be coming after his money.
The last time we saw Caesar, he broke up with Olivia to pursue his true love, Monse *cue the fangirling because I absolutely ship.* Their relationship is now in the open. What the trailer clues us in on that there might be bitter girls trying to break them apart and have Monse question their relationship. Luckily, she has Jamal and Ruby to steer her clear, because if Monse breaks up with Caesar, I will fall apart.
And for those of you that absolutely despise Olivia, well, you might just be in luck because she did not make an appearance in the trailer. Honestly, though, I feel like the producers might just be doing that to toy with our feelings and then completely obliterate our hopes and dreams. (Kind of like the president that this actress supports, but let’s not get into that.)
The fact that Olivia is not in the trailer is making me a little skeptical, because how did Ruby survive and not Olivia? Also, they didn’t really seem all that choked up from what I saw. But THEY GO TO A FUNERAL!!!
Now I’m not saying that I want Olivia to be in the show anymore, because that character was probably the most annoying but it just does not make sense. The dots are not connecting.
If you couldn’t already tell, I’m invested in this show. I wanted the show to continue after Ruby and Olivia get shot and then end. Not that I’m not eternally grateful for the production of season two, but I have this feeling that season two won’t turn out as great as the first. Fingers crossed that it lives up to expectations.
