We always say that we don’t have time. We don’t have time to read. We don’t have time to go out. Or exercise. And most tragically, we don’t have time to sleep. Just how exactly are we spending our time? I will take my time to write this article to guide you towards wiser time management. Read if you find it valuable enough to spare your time in doing so.
Remember that we all have the same 24 hours each day. Difference is made in how you spend it. So here are a few ways to make your time worth it.
Set the Priority Matrix
There are four sections in this chart. All you have to do is section your work by comparing its importance and urgency to number its priority. The work that has both high importance and high urgency should be done first. Dump the work that is neither important, nor urgent. You can go back to that once you finish all your priority work.
Set Goals
Set a big goal for the year and break it down into smaller goals for a shorter period of time. Whenever you achieve your weekly or monthly goal, give yourself a small prize to keep going. Motivation makes you concentrate harder.
Effective Planning
When you plan, don’t just list what you have to do that day. Instead, mark how much you will accomplish in a specific time. Plan how much work you would do the next day before you go to sleep, and save yourself from procrastinating. Set reminders on dates that each project or assignments are due to avoid forgetting it all together.
Use Your Mornings
Mornings are actually the best time to tackle the hardest works. Get over it during weekend mornings, and you won’t have to stress about it all day.
Keep Distractions Away
I know avoiding distractions is hard for some of us who are addicted to our dear phones, but put them out of sight for the sake of finishing your task because we already know that once we hop on Netflix, Youtube, or even start a conversation with an all-day texter, we will never get out of it.
Focus One Thing at a Time
Multitasking is a bad idea. It only shatters your focus and takes away a lot of your time because you have to constantly struggle back and forth, trying to remember what you were doing. Focus all your attention on one task, and finish it before moving onto another.
Break
The time we can actually concentrate is limited. Don’t drag your tired self into continuous labor. That will only wear you and your brain cells out. Taking breaks to refresh yourself time to time is really important. But note that you must also set a time on your breaks because if not, it’s highly possible you’ll never get out of it. Looking at your phone isn’t necessarily letting your brain rest, so minimize electronics and try moving around instead.
It’s the time of the year when finals, college apps, or whatever it is, come flooding after us. I can’t say everything is going to be okay. But I do believe that time is the best healer in the world. It will be okay when you look back to this time one day. Meanwhile, let’s try to get the best out of our every moment.
