Silver Creek has many traditions and events that keep the school spirit running high throughout the school year. From F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.S. to school dances, Silver Creek holds most of its fun filled events on Saturdays, when the majority of students have time to attend. Events held on Friday or Saturday are a lot easier to attend since students don’t have to worry about any deadlines the next day. Fridays are usually days that teachers plan to have tests or quizzes to wrap up the week. Thursday nights, therefore, are used to study.
At Silver Creek only one school-wide event is held on a Thursday: Nonfire. For many students, Thursday night is too busy to attend Nonfire, which is why they end up not going.
“Thursday is my most stressful day of the week to prepare for all the quizzes and exams that appear on Friday,” said Denis Mac ‘19, who mentions that he prefers Nonfire to be on a different day.

Similarly, Clarizza Aldea ‘18 said “I have two tests this Friday so having the event on a Thursday night is really inconvenient. I’m sure most people have the same problem.”
However Nonfire is more than a inter-class competition with skits and games. While many think Nonfire is just F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.S. during Homecoming there is a reason why the event is held on Thursday and cannot be moved to another day. “Nonfire is meant to be a nighttime rally to get everyone pumped up for the Homecoming Football Game which is held the following night. In addition to skits and other performances, we also introduce both JV and Varsity Football teams,” said Mrs. Seal, Activities Director.
While many students want Nonfire to be moved so that they can attend, the reason for holding the event on Thursday night is understandable.
The best way to be part of school activities is to attend the rest of the large array of events that Silver Creek has to offer!
