The girls of Silver Creek’s water polo team is filled to the brim with passion and ambition this season. Though the girls have had a challenging season so far, they refuse to let their losses define them.
So far they’ve had to face Gunderson and Evergreen--both games resulting in losses. Some team members couldn’t compete due to injury, creating a deficit against many other teams. Johnali Westmoreland (‘19), team captain, was able to comment on this season and her personal water polo experience. “It was hard to keep up,” she expressed the difficulty absent players created, but she hopes to only use these losses as learning points to improve as the season progresses.
Westmoreland has always had a passion for polo, as it has helped her cope with the seemingly never ending stresses of school. It's also helped her create lasting bonds between her and her teammates. She went on to explain how last season the girls started off slow, but were able to pull through and constantly improve--they continuously were moving forward. Even though her and her teammates are able to play a sport they love with people they love, Westmoreland also hopes for game strategies for future matches to improve. Her goal for the season is to encourage and cultivate the talents and potential of the girls is to place and participate within league matches.
Maria Sanchez (‘19) is also a player on the team, participating in this rigorous sport for the first time ever. She, alongside Westmoreland and their other teammates have been more than supportive with their conquests this season. With such a strong support system
Silver Creek girls water polo has a bright future ahead of them. Fueled with passion and potential, they will hopefully be able to complete this season’s goals. Remember to go out and support your team as they embark on their journey to league
