On March 17, Silver Creek Desi Student Union hosted their first ever Indriya event. Indriya, a charity dance showcase for the Sankara Eye Foundation, brought together students and parents in Indian dance and music and featured music from the Bollywood film industry.
Since joining DSU, the president Pratyusha Macherla ‘18 had, “yearned to one day, host our own show, so that we can unite the Silver Creek community together through Bollywood culture.”
With the Indriya dance showcase, Pratyusha and DSU got their chance to showcase the many talents of the dance teams in the Bay Area. Over 200 performers from 14 different high schools, including Saratoga Tamasha, EVHS Raascals, and MV Bhangra came from across the Bay Area to perform.

Despite some technical issues that come with any event, Indriya was a success. The mixture of bhangra (traditional Punjabi dance), dandiya (traditional Gujarati dance), and Bollywood dances provided great entertainment for the audience.
All the proceeds of the show went to Sankara Eye Foundation which helps establish hospitals in the rural parts of India and to
increase the number of free eye surgeries that they can perform.
