(WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD)
The Endgame is “inevitable”. Fans were left on a major cliffhanger as the Avengers were defeated for the first time in Infinity War. When Thanos snapped his fingers and decimated half the universe, audiences were left in complete shock as their favorite characters were blown to dust.
After the film, the hype for the next Avengers film was insane as Endgame shattered the record for most pre-sale tickets sold. Now only one question can be asked… did Endgame live up to the hype?
Let me say this right off the bat, Endgame is not a best picture film and it isn’t trying to be. The story throughout the film is great. But sometimes the overuse of humor and the pacing of the story throws it off sometimes. However, is it one of the best comic book movies in history? 100% percent yes!!! The film raises the bar in visuals and music score for films to come. Endgame is the perfect love story to every comic book fan out there. They leave many subtle references from past 21 films, comics, and even help set up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, and Chris Evans as Captain America steal the show. Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) give some of the greatest performances of their career and are truly the emotional power that drive this film.
The only performances that falter slightly are Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). This is not due to their acting skills, but the writing of their parts. While they both have emotional scenes, they are too often used as comedic relief, especially Thor. I actually love the take of fat Thor and that even gods aren’t perfect. But it would’ve worked better if he truly looked broken and emotional. Besides that one minor flaw, every character has their time to shine. Even some of the minor characters like Ant-Man, Rocket, War Machine, Nebula, and Captain Marvel have moments where they steal the show.
As expected Josh Brolin delivered another amazing performance as Thanos. He helps add another layer to the character and makes you like him. He isn’t just someone who wants to create destruction. There are reasons behind his evil doings and sometimes those reasons are understandable. That is what makes a great villain!!
The one thing that surprised me in the film was how good the cinematography and music score were throughout. Each act of the film has its own unique tone, and visuals.

The one thing that surprised me in the film was how good the cinematography and music score were throughout. Each act of the film has its own unique tone, and visuals.
During the first act we see how empty the universe really feels after half is decimated. Our heroes are broken and stunned at their defeat. In every scene of the first act there is a dark tone in the music. This helps add to desolation and true emptiness the universe is experiencing at the moment which leaves the audience in silence. Despite the world being empty, they manage to make it so beautiful. The shots the movie has in space are amazing. Even the visuals of an empty New York and an abandoned CITI baseball field are great. It was one of the darkest first acts we’ve seen in a marvel film as most of our righteous heroes attempt to cope with failure and loss of friends.
When the Avengers go back in time to get the stones, it leads to the most iconic moments in the MCU. It felt like a tribute to all the accomplishments of the MCU. We got to see the Battle of New York, Asgard, and even Peter’s famous intro in Guardians of the Galaxy. When they played “Come and Get Your Love” from the original Guardians film, I felt like a kid watching it for the first time again. They did an amazing job paying homage to the past films, while still adding tension and staying on task with this story.
Finally the Russo Brothers should be commended for creating one of the greatest third acts in comic book history, from Thanos showing his power to all of the Avengers finally assembling. It will have you on the edge of your seat. The finally battle might be the greatest moment in comic book history. When every single character from the past 10 years arrive through the portals, the audience can’t contain their excitement. Every hero had their epic entrance and even some funny one-liners. It truly felt like all of the 22 films lead to this one moment. For all the Avengers to stand ready for battle as Cap say’s the famous words, “Avengers… Assemble.” As all the hero's charge Thanos’ army you can’t help but get excited, as every hero gets their moment in the spotlight during the battle. They even play their original theme songs during their scenes. The final battle was intense, emotional, and epic.
In the end, Endgame is an amazing comic book film. This is meant to be the epic conclusion and tribute to the Infinity Saga of the MCU. It accomplishes this job 100%. This is definitely one of the greatest comic book films ever and a movie we will talk about for generations.
Final Score: 9/10
