On December 14th, 2019, Netflix released a K-Drama called Crash Landing On You. I was really excited about this particular K-Drama because Netflix’s other releases, such as Love Alarm and My First First Love, have been very entertaining.
This drama is about a Southern Korean heiress, Yoon Se-ri (played by Son Ye-jin), who gets into a paragliding accident and ends up in North Korea. A North Korean army officer, Ri Jung-hyuk (played by Kim Hyun-bin), finds her and tries to protect her until she can find a way back home.
Yoon Se-ri is surprisingly funny and light-hearted despite having a family that is out to sabotage her all the time. She is known in South Korea for being the CEO of a fashion company and being a player. One of her past lovers, Goo Seung-joon (played by Kim Jung-hyun), ends up stealing her older brother’s money.
Ri Jung-hyuk is calm and conservative. He is very gifted in music and comes from a family of prestigious army figures. In the drama, he is investigating who killed his older brother. To protect Yoon Se-ri, he lies to everyone by saying that she is his fiancee. This later becomes a problem, since he already has a fiancee, Seo Dan (played by Seo Ji-hye).
Netflix updates this drama every Saturday and Sunday. As of January 19th, 2020, they have released ten episodes and have skipped one weekend. The reason behind this was, “...that the production wants to have slower filming and more post-production time for the cast and crew, since the drama is still filming and sounds like they will catch up soon with the available footage," according to the website A Koala's Playground.
So far, I am excited to see where this drama goes. I find the way that the plot shows the differences and similarities between North and South Korean culture (even though they used to be one country) to be very interesting. To see the two main characters go through similar experiences despite being in different places really shows that many people in real life go through the same issues. Fans of K-Dramas will definitely like watching Crash Landing on You since it has a unique premise compared to the common themes such as the “Rich Boy, Poor Girl” or the “Last Minute Amnesia”. For those of you who are trying to get into watching K-Dramas, you will still enjoy Crash Falling on You because there's always something exciting happening. This drama will definitely keep you on your toes.
