“Silver Creek is more than just a school - it’s the beginning of our new life.”
As international students in Silver Creek High School, we left everything behind - our indigenous community, families, and friends - to be able to land our feet in America. We want a higher education, better living conditions, and greater opportunities that we wouldn’t receive in our homeland. We had to pay an expensive price to get to your starting point, at which you were put since the day you were born.
Some of you will say that it’s because of the law that you’re here at the school, like Shelly Huynh said, “Silver Creek is just ... a school”. You don’t really realize how lucky you’re to be born, to live and to study in this country. For international students like us, we fight viciously for this “Golden ticket”. It’s the once-in-a-lifetime experience that we have to grasp at all cost.
You want to know what we - the international students think of Silver Creek?
Though Silver Creek is not our final destination, it’s the portkey to bring us forward. It’s the promised land, the turning point and above all the landmark in our life.
Attending Silver Creek is such an extraordinary experience for us that we’ll never forget. We got to study, live, and make friends in a totally different place from our native schools, which I’m sure not everyone can experience in their lives. Not only do we pick up your culture, but we also share our cultures, thus we become the ambassador of both sides. Moreover, Silver Creek is the place where we’re able to step out of our own “bubble”, man up and deal with the difficulties that we’ve never tasted before. In my opinion, we’re doing the thing that our 8-year-old selves would have been proud of.
Silver Creek plays an important role in shaping our future, helping us add more to our life experience bank, letting us learn from ourselves and others.
