As the wacky binge-worthy TV show Rick and Morty continues to grow more popular, fans have grown devastated to learn that they probably won't be watching season four anytime soon. Season three ended with a cliffhanger where an old character, Mr. Poopybutthole, appeared in the post-credits who joked and announced that season four probably won't be happening for a “really long time.”
In an appearance podcast on Detroit Cast, the writer and producer, Ryan Ridley bashed the writers for the series. He stated that they haven't even started working on the new season. “They really take their time,” said Ridley. “I never understood why everybody—all parties, Dan, Justin, and Adult Swim—didn’t get their s*** together, and make the show fast.” There will be an extended gap between each season similar to the as the eighteen month gap between seasons two and three. Adult Swim has also been teasing fans by posting tweets about how long it will take for season four to air, which has fans making bets as to of when that date will be.

As a fan, for season four I’m hoping to see more episodes where Rick and Morty turn themselves into inanimate objects such in the third episode of season three where Rick turns himself into a pickle and goes on an adventure. I'm also trying to see more from Beth’s childhood and Rick’s past. We get little snips of Beth’s childhood in episode nine of season three where Beth goes into a dimension that Rick created for her as a child.
Although the next season of Rick and Morty is far into the future, fans are still excited to see what happens upcoming seasons. Hopefully, there will be more teasers from the cast and producers so that we can get some insight on what will come next. But until then, they leave it to our imaginations on when exactly Mr. Poopybutthole meant by a “really long time.
