For ages people have been waiting for a badminton anime to arrive. It is finally here! The first ever anime to be centered around badminton. The manga called Hanebado! will be adapted for the small screen and is scheduled to be released in July.
Hanebado! was published in 2013, and with 11 volumes, there is plenty of material from this manga series to develop a great series. All we know for now is that Hanebado! the manga has been out since 2013, meaning that there’s a lot to be adapted. Unlike Haikyuu!, which is a shounen anime which is made for a young male audience, Hanebado! is a seinen manga/anime which is made for young adults.
Looking at the trailer, the badminton footage and animation looks very promising. What may excite anime and badminton fans alike is that the script is written by Taku Kishimoto who wrote the script for Haikyuu!, which is arguably one of the best sport anime of all time.
The script, animation, music, and sounds are spot on and perfect. Judging from the trailers, the animators studied the sport and its techniques very well, the footwork seems to be right and the movements look good. What’s even better is that the sounds are on point, from the pop of the racket to the sound of it cutting through the air. Even the sound of shoes squeaking against the court as the characters rush to get the bird are spot on. So that brings up the real question; will Hanebado! live up to the standards other sports anime have set such as, Haikyuu! or a most recently popular one, Yuri on Ice?
With everything that this anime has got going for it, from the Taku Kishimoto, the writer of Haikyuu!’s script, a popular sports anime to its long time fan base, it’s looking to be a fantastic upcoming anime. The question is will it be as good as everyone wants it to be?
