While most of us are staying inside, safe, and with the basic necessities we need, we often forget the urgency of the pandemic. By urgency, I’m referring to nurses working wearing trash bags, health care workers losing their lives in the frontlines with lacking medical equipment, the homeless, jobless, and low-income families depending on everyday support, drivers that work tirelessly to deliver support, and seniors that can’t risk going outside to even buy food.
I can’t imagine living through these times if I was part of any of these groups. It gives me much distress that all I can do, and all most of us can do, is to sit and wait for things to get better. But it’s too early to dismiss ourselves as useless or irresponsible in aiding the relief of the COVID-19. Although at times help might seem like a difficult and faraway task, the one thing we can do now to help is donating.
Donation is a quick and easy solution to give direct support to charitable organizations that function in different ways to provide relief and research on the pandemic. And It doesn’t matter how much each of us can donate, as long as we realize that we all are capable of sharing what we can share, nothing more or less. If we care enough to direct our attention towards the matter of urgency, we can all contribute to a bigger impact.
Here are some organizations you can consider donating to:
CDC Foundation
Your donation to the CDC Foundation will be used as the Emergency Response Fund to meet urgent response needs to public health threat posed by the novel coronavirus. (Additional support for state and local health departments, support for the global response, logistics, communications, data management, personal protective equipment, critical response supplies, etc.)
Alight
Your donation to Alight will go to increasing water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in refugee settlements and providing medical equipment to the staff.
Direct Relief
Your donation to Direct Relief will help provide proper medical supplies to health care workers around the world
Center for Disease Philanthropy
Your donation to the Center for Disease Philanthropy will support the COVID-19 Response Fund focused on aiding the people at risk in most impacted areas including elderly adults, disabled people, hourly workers, and immigrants.
Feeding America
Your donation to Feeding America will aid in increasing food distributions through food banks across the U.S including mobile distribution centers in communities deeply affected by COVID-19.
Homeless Shelters
Your donation to Homeless Shelters will support homeless shelters with needed supplies in your area.
Modest Needs Foundation
Your donation to the Modest Needs Foundation will give financial assistance to individuals and families in U.S and Canada. This organization will prioritize support to people that may not qualify for federal assistance but is at the risk of falling into poverty.
Beyond the list above, there are many other donation organizations that will appreciate your generosity within reach. If you are not able to make a donation, supporting local businesses and spreading awareness on the effects of the novel coronavirus through different platforms are equally valuable efforts. Leaving a meaningful impact won’t be as difficult as you think.
