College is something we all start thinking about as the years go by in high school. I have never considered community college because I never got an even brief description of the difference. I just had my own opinions about it. As I got into my Junior year of high school I started to consider community college because it has so many pros to it. I feel like many people drift away from giving community college a chance because they think of it as another two years of high school and are worried that they’re going to drop out.
Community college has many benefits for all students. If your main concern about college right now is money, community college has a much lower tuition scale. This allows you to save for when you transfer to your next school. Community colleges are also close to home which helps by lowering the cost of living because you can still live with family while going to school.
Another reason why you should consider applying to these schools is the benefit of improving your transcript from high school. If you are like me and struggling to keep your GPA high for your transcript, community college helps you catch up on only taking the classes that are needed without playing catch up. Once you talk to your counselor at community college you will gain a better understanding of any classes needed to catch up. They will also help you succeed in your plan to transfer.
College is a big deal during the end of your junior year going into your senior year and it can tend to be very stressful because you want to go to college, when you don’t know if you are ready to go to a four year and move away from family with zero money. Community will help prepare you for two years to be ready to transfer. Most community colleges offer a variety of schools you can transfer to maybe even some that are your dream schools. So consider going to community college don’t miss out on that “college experience”. It’ll just be a little different, but still good!
