Art can be taken in many forms and some students of Silver Creek tend to openly interpret this on paper or canvas. These students have cultivated their growth as an artist throughout the years. One began in elementary while another became inspired around preschool. At any age, art can be approached with an open mind and here are some of those talented individuals.
Johnny To ‘18 began experimenting with art around first grade ever since he saw his friend sketch anime, an art style heavily influenced by Japanese animation. He had used anime as a foundation for his art and depended on them for inspiration from that point on. He was also inspired by artists like Hiroshi Yoshida for his water block style, Sinix’s conceptual art, and Karla Ortiz, who worked with Marvel for “Dr. Strange”. However, he hasn’t found his own original art style yet. As he ventures to take on art more seriously, he stated, “I need to improve on anatomy, work with versatile art platforms like digital art, and build my visual language. It’s anything that you can recall from real life that you can draw.” Follow Johnny’s art through Tumblr at www.suzhiheng.tumblr.com

Lanette Ly ‘18 first started art from as long ago as preschool. “I had already found my original style by then,” she said. Her primary inspiration was anime and she described her art style to be “tumblr-based, minimalistic, and floral”. Much of her art features flowers to compliment the human figures she draws. Many of her artistic inspirations include Bob Ross on his TV show, “The Joy of Painting”, Wenqing Yan, an anime and comic artist, and Kaiami, who is known for their cute art style and having their own business. As Lanette is already confident in her concrete art style, she ventures to take art seriously through creating merchandise for her art. “If the path to greatness is just one road, then the road would be too crowded.”
Anna Sipraseuth ‘18 began drawing eleven years ago when her father would deliver his personal sketches and she would return her own work right back. Since her father relied on realism for his art, she would look to her father’s work whenever she experimented with that particular art style. She was also inspired by Bob Ross as a child to paint. And strangely enough, the creator of “Courage the Cowardly Dog” influenced the way she perceived exaggerated facial expressions and American cartoon art. Up to now, her current art style is still based on that of her father. Beginning in sophomore year, Anna began to take art seriously for a future career. “I still need to improve on shading, light and water physics, and as well as anatomy. I like to practice the legs. You can tell that the artist practices the legs and that’s the anatomical focus for me,” Anna said. To Anna, it doesn’t matter if you start early or late as an artist.
