Everyone looks forward to breaks. It’s the time where we don’t have to worry about school, can stay up until the dark hours of the next day, and put off homework until the last possible minute. And the moment we start school again, we’re already marking our calendars, counting down the days until we can kick back and relax once again. But if you’re like me - and the majority of people I know, you don’t really have anything to do during break. Unless there is a family trip planned out or you’re able to plan a get-together with your friends, most of us spend our much-awaited break by ourselves doing nothing.
For me, instead of using my time productively, I resort to scrolling Tumblr, watching random videos on Youtube, and sleeping. While it’s good to have a “me day” every once in a while, continuous “me days” are the problem. Instead of wasting time and just tiring yourself, use the random bursts of motivation to clean out your room or to finally get started on that one thing you said you were going to do.

Another problem many people run into after a long break is that the first week back is absolute torture, from having to fix your messed up sleep schedule to doing work. This is why finding things to do during break is even more important. To combat the slumps that come with school starting again, create a routine for yourself so that it is easier to replace the activity with academics again.
Don’t get me wrong, I love long breaks. There are opportunities for me to catch up on my K-dramas and get out of the house instead of staying cooped up at my computer all day. Getting a decent amount of sleep is the highlight of my breaks since I feel so energized, but it’s ironic how I don’t use it for anything. That’s why doing something everyday, even if it’s something simple, will give you the push you need to come back to school motivated to succeed.
