Finals week is upon us. Grades are about to close and we’re all scrambling to raise our grades before it’s too late. A student’s greatest fear, studying, is an essential part to acing finals. But, it’s hard to focus when there’s so many distractions around us. So here are some things you should avoid while studying.

2. Download a new game on your phone
Netflix is super tempting, especially with all of their new releases. We’ve all had that “just one more episode” moment, but one episode turns into the entire season. Binge watching is a huge distraction, but it can wait till Christmas break.

It’s easy to get obsessed with a game, but don’t do it before finals. You will absolutely regret it. You always promise yourself just 5 minutes of game time and then you’ll study, but let’s be real, 5 minutes probably turns into 5 hours.

3. Binge Study
4. Scroll through Twitter and Instagram the day before
You can’t expect to raise your C to an A- when you haven’t been studying. Cramming information before a big test isn’t helpful. It actually makes you learn less. To study more efficiently, I recommend setting a time period everyday to sit down and work.

Studying is super boring, but it’s something you inevitably can’t ignore. Scrolling through social media wastes precious time. It may make you feel happier to imagine yourself after finals, but eventually we have to go back to reality and suffer through the pain.
5. Go out with friends
6. Spend more time calculating your grade instead of actually studying
7. Pull an All-Nighter
Similar with binge studying, staying up all night to study doesn’t help you learn. Your mind needs rest from all the work it’s being doing. Sleep is super important. Make sure to get a good night’s sleep before your finals!
Finals are a stressful time for almost all students. It’s only natural that we stress out and for bad habits to surface. In the end, we must remember to try our best and keep ourselves in check. Don´t allow yourself to get distracted, remember to study efficiently and get a good amount of rest before finals!
