The Office has been a highly praised show as it’s won multiple emmys and has many critically acclaimed actors on the show. The show is best known for its awkward and unusual humor with a mix of romantic drama. It aired on NBC for 9 seasons from 2005-2013 and is considered one of the greatest comedy shows ever. While there are many iconic episodes that you can think of from this series here are 10 episodes that really stand out above the rest.
10. Finale (Season 9, Episodes 23)
This was the heartwarming finale for an amazing comedy show. The episode took place a year after the previous episode, happening in the days leading up to and the day of the wedding for Dwight and Angela. Personally I think they did this episode perfectly. It has emotional moments, finished character arcs and the return of the great Michael Scott for the final episode. This was definitely a great finale for an equally great TV show.
9. Threat Level Midnight ( Season 7, Episode 17)
The events leading up to the departure of Michael Scott were great ones to send him off on the right note. “Threat Level Midnight” was a story that Michael Scott wrote, about a hero named Michael Scarn, who is a James Bond character of sorts. This episode answered the question, “What if there was an action movie with the office characters we loved?” Let me tell you… I would definitely watch it. The movie had great awkward humor, jokes, and the made up characters that in a sense parody many action films. It was also the debut of the Scarn Dance that we see many celebrities do even to this day.
8. The Dundies (Season 2, Episode 1)
After a rough start for the Office in season 1, they needed to step up their game for this upcoming season… and boy did they ever. The first episode of season 2 was a classic. The Dundies are basically the Oscars for the Dunder Mifflin crew. This year they hosted it at a Chili’s and Michael hands out many awards such as hottest in the office, whitest sneakers award, and longest engagement award. Thanks to Michael’s awkward jokes and Pam getting very drunk at a Chili’s this was an event we won’t forget.
7. Customer Survey (Season 5, Episode 7)
A great interaction between Dwight and Jim as they have to go through sales training with Michael after getting bad reviews about their customer service. This is the main reason why the episode is up here. Jim decides to take advantage of this opportunity by pissing off Dwight and end up making him fail the sales training class.
6. Goodbye Michael (Season 7, Episode 22)
Definitely one of the more heartfelt episodes in the series as this is the final goodbye for Michael. This part has all the emotions as Michael has to say goodbye to a place that he has worked at for 20 years. To avoid being too sad and end up being convinced to stay Michael tells everyone that he is leaving on Friday when he is really leaving on Thursday. Jim and pam catch onto this as they are able to give their final goodbyes to the great Michael Scott before he gets on the plane.
5. Product Recall (Season 3, Episode 20)
This episode is on here just for the opening sequence alone. Jim decided to come to work dressed as Dwight just to annoy him. He copied everything he does and got the same bobble heads that Dwight has on his desk which makes Dwight lose it. Later in the show Michael has to send out his employees to retrieve all the paper they just sold because they realize and inappropriate image was drawn on all of the papers sold to the businesses.
4. Beach Games (Season 3, Episode 22)
A classic episode as the Dunder Mifflin crew takes an off day to go have a beach day. Since Michael believes he is going to get promoted he sees the beach day as a chance to see who should replace him. So he hosts a trial of Beach games and the winner gets to be manager. It was great seeing all the characters go toe to toe in sack race, sumo wrestling and many other games. Also the reveal at the end is something that was a long time coming, but I will avoid spoilers.
3. Drug Testing (Season 2, Episode 20)
The Office is under investigation. Someone smoked a joint in the parking lot and since Dwight is a Lackawanna County Sheriff's Deputy Volunteer he takes it upon himself to solve the crime. Dwight begins to set up a crime scene and begins interrogating everyone in the office. This creates some hilarious interactions between Dwight and everyone in the office. Also Jim has a great scene where he tricks Dwight into thinking he smoked the joint.
2. Diversity Day (Season 1, Episode 2)
This was a big moment for the Office series. The first episode of the Office was very bland and hated on by critics. It had too much in common with the british version of the Office and never really did anything unique. Episode 2 of the Office helped shut down the critics as it began to separate itself from its predecessor. In this episode Micheal run a diversity day training session to try and stop racism. But it all goes bad as he forces people to say stereotypes about each race. This helped fully flesh out all the characters and show us their personalities.
1. Stress Relief pt 1 and pt 2 ( Season 5, Episodes 15 and 16)
If you ever want to know how to make a good comedy show I would tell you to study this two part episode series. This is comedy done to perfection and for most people, including myself, this is the greatest episode in Office history. The jokes are perfectly timed and the use of the comedy is pure gold. The show starts with Dwight setting the Office on fire on purpose. He does this because no one paid attention to the fire safety powerpoint and he wanted to see how ready they were. This scene alone is perfect and set up an amazing episode. I won’t spoil the rest just watch the show. Even if you have never seen the show before this episode watch it!! This two part episode is comedy royalty.
