After ‘Me!’ featuring Panic at the Disco’s Brendon Urie in April, Swift came out with ‘You Need to Calm Down’ with dozens of LGBTQ+ celebrities, creating awareness for Pride month. But the release of ‘The Archer’ in July and ‘Lover’ a few days prior to the album’s publication (August 23), clued the audience to what the album is really about. Long gone were her dark, edgy vibes. Lover became the top-selling album just two days after its release, placed number one on the charts and all eighteen songs were on the Billboard 200. Co-producing all of them as well as writing a few of the songs herself, this became Swift’s seventh full-length album. These mellow, settled songs became a huge deal due to her new style of music. |
The album is a tribute to her past but mainly her present relationship, US Weekly says she is the “happiest she’s ever been.” Taylor Swift fans were happy alongside her until someone else topped Swift on the charts.
Releasing their album Fear Inoculum, their first in thirteen years, Tool kicked Lover down to second place. Formed in 1990, this rock band has come out with eight other albums, but it all stopped in 2006. A lawsuit filed against the members Danny Carey (drummer), Adam Jones (guitarist), Maynard James Keenan (vocalist), and Justin Chancellor (bassist), caused this group to postpone any further music production. Now that the lawsuit made by their insurance company—which sued Tool over a copyright case concerning an album art piece—has been settled out, Tool has dropped an album fans have been waiting forever for. Years of anticipation from fans paid off in getting Fear Inoculum to the top. Not only did this album get onto the Billboard 200, but also their previous albums: AEnima (1996), Lateralus (2001), and 10,000 Days (2006). The song ‘Fear Inoculum’ became the longest song (at roughly ten minutes) to ever hit the charts at number one. This band also broke the record of filling all ten of the Top 10 spots of Billboard's Rock Digital Song Sales chart. |
Fans have been ecstatic to hear that Tool made a comeback and Tool is even more proud that they dethroned the pop queen even after going years without making an appearance. Although there is no news on Taylor Swift’s reaction to Tool, Swift stans are enraged by this “new” band they have never heard of. Tweets are being thrown at each other and people have been criticizing each other’s post. Even Maynard James Keenan from Tool posted a meme of him as Thanos from the movie Endgame, snapping his finger and disintegrating a picture of Taylor Swift.
Thus, the spot for number one has sparked an internet war against the old and new generation.
