A lot of popular video games come from Japan, with new releases just about every year. Back in 2017, was Spike Chunsoft’s latest installment to its most famous franchise, Danganronpa, with New Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (known as New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Killing Semester in Japan). The Danganronpa series is about a group of 15-16 students locked within their school, with their only method of escape is to kill another student and not get caught. The lead writer of the series is none other than Kazutaka Kodaka, a figure within the Danganronpa fandom known for being a “troll”. With this reputation, little did fans suspect that the latest installment would be the last installment… written by him. Kodaka has announced that he is leaving Spike Chunsoft to start his own company with a writer of the Zero Escape series called Tokai Productions. Already, the two have revealed three projects that they will be working on. Two of these projects are video games and one is planned to be an anime series. So what does this mean for Danganronpa? There are two possibilities for the series if it were to continue. One of them is that Spike Chunsoft will continue the series without Kodaka, while the other is a promise that Kodaka has told the fans. His promise is that if the new projects that Tokai is planning become popular enough, he will eventually continue the series. |
