Adventure is out there and the class of 2019 enjoyed a fun night at the Fairmont Hotel on March 24 for their junior prom event.
Taking place in the heart of downtown San Jose, the Fairmont Hotel offered the juniors an exquisite ballroom venue accompanied by a photobooth and a photo opportunity for cute flipbooks. Delicious food and drinks were served by the hotel staff. More importantly, DJ Patrix of Bay Area radio station Wild 94.9 spun tracks throughout the night to keep everyone on the dance floor.
Arriving at the hotel hotel’s exquisite lobby, I turned right to find administrators checking bags and belongings. Once the escalator took me to the second floor, I was given tickets for the photobooth and the flipbook area and two ticket stubs for beverages. A large white photobooth and a glittery backdrop for the flipbook were already set up and juniors lined up to get their pictures taken. Coat check was to the left so that attendees could keep their belongings safe and sound.
Much of the Fairmont was made grandiose with humongous, golden-framed mirrors and intricate carpet patterns. However, the most overwhelming part of junior prom was walking into the actual ballroom. I was immediately swept in dark purple light and found the juniors already swaying on the dance floor. DJ Patrix was already moving energetically behind his DJ equipment, smoothly transitioning from one lively song to another.
The hotel provided a variety of cupcakes, sandwiches, and a seemingly endless amount of chicken bits. It was enough to sustain me for the night. Water was free, but flavored drinks like orange juice or soda cost one ticket stub. Many of the juniors were reportedly satisfied with the food options that helped them energetically get back on the dance floor.
The photobooth timed people to make four poses under a limited amount of time, often posing in funny ways. At the flipbook area, juniors would twirl around or do a variety of dance moves in front of the camera, which were captured frame by frame. I got some pictures myself with the yearbook team and left with great memories.
Fairmont turned out to be a fantastic venue. Administrators like Principal Chatman and Mr. Mach, alongside with teachers like Ms. Loveday and Ms. Tran kept a careful eye on the students for the entire night, allowing everyone to have fun in a safe environment.
As for next year’s senior prom, class of 2019 will surely make it another fantastic event.
