Everyone knows the amazing, incredible, and complex world of the Marvel Universe, created by Stan Lee. They are not only comics, but movies made about Lee’s characters. There are so many of them it can be hard to figure out which one to watch first as they all came out on different times. Now that all the Avenger movies are out, the whole timeline will make more sense.
First movie you should watch is Captain America: The First Avenger. Why? Because he is the first Avenger. Duh. In Captain America, takes place in the 1940’s during WWII, making it the earliest part of the MCU timeline. The movie to watch right after this would be Captain Marvel. There is a huge time gap as it takes place fifty plus years later, in 1995. Captain America may have been the “first avenger”, but Captain Marvel was the first to spark the idea of the Avengers Team for Nick Fury, one of the head agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Both the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man were released at the same time in cinemas; however, Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 2 both come before the Incredible Hulk. In the second Iron Man movie, we are introduced to Black Widow who eventually becomes a major asset to the Avengers team. At this point we have been introduced to, four of the six Avengers.
After the Incredible Hulk, comes the one and only god super hero, Thor. We are introduced to our first future Avengers villain, Loki, who goes through drastic character development through the movies along with his brother Thor. Now that we are familiar with the main characters, what comes after is the first Avengers movie. The movie includes every superhero thus far with the exception of Captain Marvel.
The movie Thor: The Dark World, follows up on the events that occurred in Avengers. This movie is a must see, as it introduces the concept of Infinity Stones and gives Thor his purpose for the next movies following up. Keeping the focus on other worlds, Guardians of the Galaxy comes next, directly after is Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 with a time jump of a couple of months.
Here we end Phase 1 of the timeline.
The world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is crazy but it doesn’t stop here. There are still two more phases to go, and a fourth still going. This is where we end phase 1 of the timeline.
