In August 2018, Netflix released an original movie called, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The movie is based on the book To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, about a girl, Lara Jean (played by Lana Condor), who wrote letters directed to her crushes and never sends them. One day they all get sent out and she falls in love with one of the boys the letters went to, named Peter Kavinsky (played by Noah Centineo).
After its release, it immediately gained popularity through the Asian community because it was very rare to see an Asian-American actress playing the main character. It also caught people’s interest in the fact that the plotline is unique.
Naturally, since the first movie got positive feedback. Fans demanded a second film and in 2019, the TATBILB production team, posted on their social media confirming that they were in the middle of filming the second film, P.S I Still Love You.
In February, The long-awaited sequel came out. The plot was about Lara Jean’s new relationship with Peter Kavinsky. She also finds another recipient of her love letters, John Ambrose McClaren (played by Jordan Fisher). This causes conflict between the couple because it makes Peter feel insecure and Lara Jean realizes that she is still bothered by Peter's past relationship with Gen (played by Emilija Baranac).
I felt like Lana Condor and Emilija Baranac did a great job portraying the special friendship that Lara Jean and Gen have. Their acting made me relate to the old friendships I’ve had to let go of and the people that I missed talking to.
My favorite part about both movies is the music because I feel like it can explain the emotions that are happening in the storyline and foreshadow future scenes. This movie had great songs like,“Moral of the Story '' by Ashe and “Kill the Love” by Blackpink.
Before watching this movie, I didn’t want to keep my expectations high because usually sequels are never as good as the first movie. But after watching it, I was proven wrong, it was very similar to the book. It took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and even made me tear up at some parts. I recommend this movie to anyone who has read the books, watched the first movie, or who just wants to watch a cute teenage romance film.
