Going green is a lot easier than you think. There are so many little things that can be done to reduce greenhouse gases and carbon footprint that is being left behind on this earth. It may not seem like a lot, but the things that are done on an everyday basis add up; with constant practice, these habits become second nature.
A way to help decrease the pollution in our environment is to be more cautious about where trash is thrown, even if it isn’t your own. It really isn’t that hard to throw garbage in a trash can. Even if there aren’t any trash cans anywhere keep the garbage with you until you can find a trash.
Do not tolerate people who litter. Be that one friend that calls people out for throwing their garbage on the floor or leaves their garbage all over the table after lunch. There is nothing wrong with wanting the Earth to last another million years. |
Another way to help the environment is to be more aware about the use of water in and out of the household. It’s easy to turn off the faucet when it’s not in use and making sure the tap is closed completely, can save about five gallons of water daily. Shorter showers saves more water, the average shower head uses about 25 gallons of water for a 10 minute shower.
Reducing the amount of waste that is being put on this planet is another way to help keep the environment healthy. Buying reusable water bottles, containers for lunch, and grocery bags might be a bit pricey at first, but in the long run means less in the landfill. It’s estimated that one million birds, turtles, and other sea animals die from ingesting plastic confusing it as food. By using a reusable grocery bag, the average person would remove over 22,000 plastic bags from the earth in their lifetime.
"...it is also a really easy way to reduce carbon footprint."
Avoiding fast fashion and shopping second hand not only gives used clothing a second chance but it is also a really easy way to reduce carbon footprint. Big factories that produce clothing in popular clothing stores like Forever 21, H&M, Nike, and Urban Outfitters create pollution in the air which contributes to global warming. Not only are these big factories polluting the air we breath but because of their high demand and how people get over them quickly, those trends also add to the pollution.
