Every student wakes up and get ready to go to school. We brush our teeth, wash our faces, put some clothes on to run out of the house and make it on time for our first class of the day. Not many wake up straight to the news to see what’s going on in the world but, if you are that person then good for you, keep it up. My whole point of this is our first thought as teenagers is never, “What is happening in the world now?” We have better stuff on our minds like watching Travis Scott’s documentary or how many likes we got on our recent post. I even see people all over Twitter talking about how the world is going to end in 17 months saying “yolo” or “live your best life till the world ends” but not many think about reality and how crazy it is that our world is at this point.
Us teenagers need to realize that we are the next generation coming. I say us because I am included in this situation. Say our world ends a little later than 17 months we have a long way to go which means changes can start happening. There is so much that has been going on for the past couple of years and yes it’s freaking crazy and scary sometimes but the last thing it should do is have you hidden from reality. Instead of being sad that families are getting separated use that energy to see how you can start something so small like talking to your teacher about what you can do to make a difference. At the end of the day just talking about it in person is a big step and the word gets around. Bringing awareness starts a movement which leads into bettering the world.
The problem with our society is we are so fixated on stuff that literally has no benefit for us in the future. Yes, we are involved with real world problems but we can be more involved if we start making changes because our ancestors and grandparents didn’t work this hard for us to let the world fall apart not only physically but socially as well. Some ways you can start is putting your phone down and talking to someone about how you feel towards certain world problems, picking up trash that can potentially end up in the ocean, joining programs within the community, raising money for hurricane Dorian or homeless people in your city, protesting for your rights. No one is perfect and as you are nearing the end of this article you understand that the world isn’t either but we can all work together to do better. I hope your eyes are a little more open and your brain is thinking of what you’re awakening will be towards the world..
