The seven members of BTS have done a spectacular job at performing and satisfying their fans, known as A.R.M.Y., all over the world with their Love Yourself tour which has lasted for over half a year and will be coming to an end in Thailand on April 7th.
Fans have been anticipating more of their music and appearances as they tour around the world, only to receive more than they could’ve ever asked for. During the span of their Love Yourself tour, several members dropped singles that no one knew would be coming out including RM’s “Seoul”, Jimin’s “Promise”, and V’s “Scenery”, not to mention Jungkook’s cover of popular K-Pop star IU’s song “Ending Scene” and Suga’s feature in Lee So-Ra’s “Song Request”.
Throughout all of this, BTS even made an appearance on the Grammy’s, making them the first in the K-Pop industry to appear, present, and be nominated for a Grammy. It was a huge breakthrough and milestone for, not only them, but the Korean entertainment industry as well.
To top it all off, on February 19, 2019, the K-Pop agency Big Hit Entertainment announced BTS’ upcoming Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour. With less than a month to rest, BTS will begin the tour on May 4th. As of right now, their upcoming tour has a total of ten shows with more dates to be added. Three of the shows are in the U.S. including the Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles to kick off the tour, Soldier Field in Chicago, and the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.
“Speak Yourself” is more significant to BTS than many people realize. Last year on September 24th, they had the chance to present a speech at the United Nations general assembly. They took this opportunity to speak about how their newest albums in the four-part Love Yourself series were their campaign to spread positivity, acceptance, and self-love among youth all over the world.
The leader of BTS, Kim Namjoon (a.k.a. RM), delivered the speech in which he stated:
"Tell me your story. I want to hear your voice, and I want to hear your conviction. No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin colour, gender identity: speak yourself. Find your name, find your voice by speaking yourself.”
This is a message to be who you are, who you want to be, and to be proud of it. Even though not many details about the tour have been announced, it’s safe to say that the purpose of it is most likely tied to this motivational and uplifting speech. It also brings out the overall message that BTS has been trying to send in the years since they debuted.
