Living in the Bay Area, we’re lucky to be a part of the diverse cultures existing amongst us. From Lunar New Year festivals to Day of the Dead celebrations, annual festivals emerge from cultures from all parts of the world. However most of the time, we take our diversity for granted and are unaware of the cultural backgrounds of the people we see everyday at school.
Outside of school, there are so many cultural activities happening while we’re comfortable in our homes or with our friends. One of them happens to be the annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco’s very own Japantown, which occurs every year on two weekends in April. I rode the Caltrain to San Francisco to visit this festival on April 21st with a friend. The streets of Japantown were packed with crowds of people and we felt a little overwhelmed, but overall it was an interesting continuous stream of activities.
