After weeks of practice in the heat of summer, the girls tennis team has been working hard to adjust to the new co-coaches, new lineup, and new girls on the team. Now with the season almost over, co-captains Caitlin Nguyen (18’) and Prachi Bhagavata (18’) are hoping to end the season on a good note.
Though Nguyen will be unable to play in future matches after a leg injury, she has found that being in tennis will still be very enjoyable.
“Every year I join tennis, I meet amazing, inspiring girls who are motivated in their studies and in sports. Their different personalities keep practice and games memorable for my last year. I couldn't imagine my high school experience to be the same without these individuals who motivated me during my games and in school,” Nguyen said.

Coach Dole and Coach Aryan also have high hopes for the overall season and how the girls will play this year. With both being teachers and having previous experience as coaches, they’ve found being co-coaches makes scheduling around games and practicing much easier. Being their first year, they’ve been working hard to make time for the girls’ practices, bond more with the girls, and help the team improve.
When asked about the girls this year, Coach Dole said,“We had many girls returning this year, so I know they are incredibly passionate about tennis and devoted to the team. I think, as a team, we have a great sense of community, and the captains really work hard to make sure all the girls have a voice on the team.”

Junior varsity player, Delaine Dao (20’) values how the tennis team has impacted her as a second year player. “I joined tennis last year with no experience of the sport, but the girls took me under their wing and helped me improve throughout the year. As cheesy as it may sound, they feel like sisters and I couldn't have asked for better people to share my love with,” said Dao.
Freshman varsity player Archania Kalahasti (21’) felt that being a freshman on varsity was a frightening experience, but with the support of her team members, she bonded with others and had lots of fun.
“Everyone has been really welcoming and encouraging and that helps a lot for someone who is new to the team and to Silver Creek. Being a new member of the team, I was shy at first because almost everyone was older than me, but they have all been really welcoming,” said Kalahasti.
As an A-league team this year, the girls tennis teams from all schools have been strong as always, encouraging many of the girls to work their very hardest each and everyday at practice. Games against schools like Evergreen and Leland have been tough and pushed all the girls to play their best. The team’s overall record is currently 2-10 out of 14 overall games, though matches against some schools have been close to winning.
“Our last game of the season is against Evergreen and though their team is one of the biggest competitors of our division, we're hoping that we’ll be able to end this season with a bang,” said Trisha Nguyen (19’).
Wins and losses with always be part of the game and with the season quickly passing by, the girls are hoping to pull back strong for the last few games of the season.
