Silver Creek’s girls’ basketball season is back! Varsity players Kennedy Ventura 22’ and Alyssa Torres 22’. Ventura and Torres are sophomores playing with mostly upperclassmen. Both players are working to balance school and basketball. Torres said, “It, at times, is difficult depending on the amount of homework my teachers give me; trying to get my work done is stressful when I’m committed to the team.”
Ventura added, “The older girls have helped us with time management, so I do the little things, like homework before practice so I’m not staying up late. Although it was hard and stressful in the beginning, we’re getting better.”
It is known that games can be nerve racking, “I personally get locked in and focused. I think about what my team needs me to do so that we can be successful and get the job done,” said Ventura.
Torres added, “To prepare, I think about my mistakes from the previous game and try to improve from them.”
While the team has some success, they need to work on, communication to improve the game play. “ The biggest thing we need to work on is communication because since this is a team sport, we need to work together in order to give ourselves the best shot at winning.’’ said Ventura.
In addition, Torres stated, “We have amazing practices and then when it’s game time we struggle to bring what we learned in practice on the court. Also, we lack chemistry, which we are working on.”
The team is working towards a good season. Torres said, “I think it’s going pretty well, but there’s room for improvement. We’re staying positive.”
