Häagen Dazs” is the debut single from newly formed rap supergroup Ghetto Sage. The group consists of rappers Smino, Saba, and Noname, all natives of Chicago.
Coming off of each of their individual projects from 2018, the group finally formed after two previous collaborations on songs such as Noname’s “Ace” and “Shadow Man”.
Each of them has something to bring to the table. Smino’s flow is smooth and his hook is incredibly catchy. Saba brings his signature rapid fire delivery at the end of his verse and his flow is the exact contrast to Smino’s, being jumpy and energetic. Noname’s lyricism is top-notch as always, however her verse starts out shaky. Noname works best when she is put against melodic beats, however she doesn’t sound great in tandem with this beat.
While I enjoy listening to this track there are problems. The beat sounds a little too bare-bones, even though it’s not too boring.
The song in its whole is pretty good, however it doesn’t showcase all of them working together like “Ace” does. This single leaves me excited for the future of Ghetto Sage.
