To quote the words of a true Genovian queen, Clarisse Renaldi, “a queen is never late, everyone else is simply early.” Now 15 years later, enter the new queen of Genovia: Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo in The Princess Diaries 3- never late, just right on time.
The Princess Diaries is set in San Francisco and focuses on the shy teen Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), who's thrown in a loop when she finds out that she is, in fact, a real princess. As the only apparent heir, Mia starts on a journey to decide whether or not she should ascend the throne. Her once normal life is taken over by a whirlwind of glamorous makeovers, new-found popularity that comes with her title, changing tents, and “princess lessons” from her estranged grandmother, Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews). Just the everyday life of a normal teen; I mean, I just love waking up one day to find out what I’ve always known that I’m royalty; totally relatable. Five years later, The Princess Diaries 2 : Royal Engagement continues with Mia’s arrival in Genovia. Now that school is done with, it is finally time for Queen Clarisse to step down and hand the reins over to Mia. The only obstacle standing in Mia’s way is a misogynistic and ancient rule along with a man hell-bent on taking the throne for his nephew, and her feelings for the nephew Nicholas (Chris Pine) himself. As Mia navigates her way through every drawback the country throws her way, she starts to prove to the people of her new home that she is worthy of her title, and shows the Parliament that she can rule over Genovia even without a man by her side. But I mean she gets the man at the end anyways so you go girl! The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement leaves off with Nicholas professing his love to Mia but doesn’t expand on what happened afterwards. Fortunately Anne Hathaway has revealed that there is already a script for Princess Diaries 3 but other than that, she’s been pretty tight lipped as to make sure that everything is perfect and ready to go before final details are released about the movie. Hathaway has revealed that Julie Andrews will be making an appearance in this movie, long live the Queen, along with Chris Pine, who plays Mia’s love interest, so I guess it’s safe to assume that their relationship is sailing on smooth waters. The possibilities are really endless in the direction that the movie could take. I mean, Mia could be married with children, Joe is no longer her bodyguard and confidant, so who is she to go to now. Whatever happens, I’m pretty sure that the fans are stoked for this upcoming movie. I know I am. As of right now, neither Anne Hathaway nor the producers have released a definite date or the network that the movie is going to be released so be on the lookout because this is not a movie that you want to miss out on. |
