On January 18th, in the city of Tlahuelilpan in central México. At least 91 people were killed in central México after a ruptured gasoline pipeline exploded. The cause of this was the lack of security of the gasoline in México. There has been a huge gasoline problem in most of México with many gas stations running dry and affecting many families, many not being able to get there jobs or travel. In the city of Tlahuelilpan the gas lines are not very secure, and many people would dig underground and break the gas lines to steal gasoline for their cars and homes. I personally went to México in the summer of last year, and traveled to the south of México in the state of Oaxaca I did not see any shortage of gas in the town where I stayed so it hasn’t really taken effect on the south region of México.
On January 18th, citizens of the city had dug up and exposed a gas pipeline, which looked like water springs pouring but was in fact very dangerous and flammable gasoline. As the evening set, an explosion occurred engulfing the field where the pipeline was in flames. Unfortunately, there were people caught in the explosion, killing around 90 people and injuring dozens and many more missing.
Alejandro Gertz Manero, general prosecutor of México said that the cause of the explosion was electricity from the people’s clothing. A very large group of people who had clothes with synthetic fibers would’ve made enough energy and electricity to spark and in result cause a huge explosion. This has sparked news about the gas shortage in México and how it’s taking effect on the citizens and the economy as well. Pemex the gas corporation in México spoke out to say how they will try their best to resolve the gas shortage and prevent future situations like from happening by taking bigger measures and being more cautious when it comes to the gas pipelines. And prevent incidents like this from happening again.
