On the sixth of every month Day6 writes, composes, and produces two songs as part of their “Every Day6” project. It’s a big task, especially for a rock band that’s relatively unknown. However, the Korean band is slowly getting recognition from the K-Music industry with this tactic. Now, armed with their instruments, song-writing skills, and stellar voices, the five members of Day6 are emerging from the basement as a force to be reckoned with.
In K-Pop, bands usually don’t get much recognition since fans are more attracted to fast moving choreographies and dance music. Initially, Day6 hooked me with their different music and their talents for writing amazing songs that suit every mood, but after exposure to their older songs and keeping up with every release, they quickly became my top boy-band. Here are some of my favorites.
“Colors” (2015)
“I’m running out of breath as I run to the deep ocean that swallowed up the stars.”
This was my favorite song from Day6 until very recently. “Colors” highlights the vocalists’ talents by reaching higher, longer notes. It’s not quite a ballad but not all out rock music either, which creates a perfect mix for a song about wanting to give up. The instrumentation and the emotional voices create a piece that portrays these feelings of helplessness and loneliness.
“Letting Go” (2016)
“Pain is only temporary, someday you will meet someone who can make you happier.”
The first ten seconds of this song will immediately strike you right in the heart. The harmonizing from the members sets the mood for the rest of the song, which is about letting go of a lover. The verses are medium paced but the crescendo to the chorus and the powerful instrumental that accompanies it generates a melancholy feeling in the listener.
“How Can I Say” (2017)
“I can’t bear to tell you that my heart has already left.”
This is my favorite song from Day6 that shows off their rock side. While the instrumental in many of their other songs are softer to highlight sadder feelings, this song starts and ends with a bang. The song only slows for the bridge but even that isn’t too slow for “How Can I Say” to be a great song to pump yourself up. The entire song has exciting instrumental: strong drum beats and electric guitar.

“Dance Dance” (2017)
“Dance with me till you get dizzy, till you become a mess, nobody cares.”
“Dance Dance” might not get you to dance, but you’ll want to get out of your seat. It’s a great song to motivate yourself with its upbeat chorus and peppy verses. If that’s not enough, the chorus is easy to sing to since most of it’s in English. Without knowing, you’ll end up tapping out the beats or nodding your head along to this fun song.
“Hi Hello” (2017)
“Hi, Hello, as we exchange those words, we’re starting our own story.”
Day6’s stellar vocals are highlighted in this great song. It’s a slow song, one I can imagine myself listening to on a long car ride with the windows down. While the song isn’t special in terms of instrumental, “Hi Hello” is one of my favorites because the chorus allows listeners to get a taste of the members’ harmonies.
